World’s First Animated COVE) Face Mask’ Short

Even though COVID-19 vaccines have finally begun to ship and reach their first recipients, people shouldn’t let down their guard when it comes to wearing masks. Given that most people will not receive their shots until late spring / summer 2021, we must continue our vigilance.

London-based advertising creative and NOMINT founder Yannis Konstantinidis has just released one of his latest projects, The World’s First Animated COVID Face Mask, delivering a dash of colour and an extra dose of hope to the idea of a face mask this holiday season. The ‘animated’ mask takes the form of a beautiful stop-motion short, made from 400 unique cloth masks, animated together to create a parade of colourful moving images.

According to the director, his film is just what Santa ordered to get viewers fired up about wearing a mask! The masks will be sold to benefit the world-renowned London-based Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity. Masks can be purchased and additional donations to the charity can be made on the project’s Indiegogo campaign.

Christmas Shopping in Virtual Reality

Virtual Reality can transform the online shopping experience, making it safe and frustration-free for consumers.

VR can make Christmas shopping less stressful and a whole lot safer, especially amid the global health crisis. Virtual Reality takes online shopping to a whole new level. Instead of browsing the product categories of retail websites, shoppers can explore virtual versions of brick-and-mortar stores. It tries to recreate in-store shopping experiences through 360-degree views of retail stores.

Take Dior for example. They made a virtual version of their store in Champs-Elysees, Paris. You can tour around the store, then zoom in on the products on the shelves. You can browse a wide range of products that they sell in the actual store, including perfumes, candles and scarves.

Even without a VR headset, shoppers can still take a look around from their smartphones, tablets, or PCs. It won’t, however, be as immersive.

The Next Generation Technology – Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality: A Quick Overview

The Next Generation Technology – Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality: A Quick Overview

Augmented Reality (AR) & Virtual Reality (VR) are quite commonly heard terms these days. What exactly are they?

Augmented Reality

Augmented Reality is not a new technology — in fact, it’s just over half a century old now, as it was first developed in 1968 at Harvard University by computer scientist Ivan Sutherland. It has been used for decades through the use of head-mounted displays for simulations in the aviation and military industries, and has been improved by everyone from labs at universities, to corporations and the military.

Augmented Reality or AR enables you to see a real world combined with a digital rendering that augments your current view. The augmentations could be using content such as graphics, music, or animations. With the help of AR, you can not only see the real-life environment right in front of you like your table, trees, or dogs, but also see a digital augmentation overlaid on it.

AR is developed into apps and used on mobile devices to blend digital components. Although the history roots from the 70s, the rise happened when cameras got better and advanced. An additional factor that helped are softwares and algorithms that could render digital content and overlay it live while the user holds the phone in a specific way.

Augmented reality technology has seen unprecedented growth in 2020. Commercial use of the technology has exploded due to use by market leaders like Microsoft, Apple, Google, Facebook, and Amazon. According to Markets, the market for AR technology is worth $15.3 billion. It’s worth exploring the different avenues and trends that drive the surging augmented reality market. By the end of 2020, AR active devices were estimated to rise to 598 million units and are projected to grow to 1.73 billion by 2024. (Source – https://bit.ly/2MNgkpW )

Microsoft Hololens, a mixed reality device and Epson Moverio Augmented Reality Smart Glasses are examples of next-gen AR devices.

Virtual Reality

No 1 gaming institute

Virtual Reality (VR) refers to a simulated environment created using technology. Instead of viewing a screen in front of you, you will be immersed in the 3D world, and can interact with the elements around.

VR headsets like Oculus, Sony VR, or Google Cardboard are some of the devices that uses your mobile phone to experience VR. Even though Virtual Reality is most commonly experienced with the help of a VR headset, there are other devices like Omni-directional treadmills and VR gloves today that can add to your experience. VR not only creates a strong sensation of virtual content. It can stimulate your senses like touch, sound and sight too. It’s called synthetic stimulation.

Virtual Reality is possible through a coding language known as VRML (Virtual Reality Modeling Language) that specifies the types of interactions possible with the images or videos.

One of the most arising technologies in this decade is the virtual reality (VR) technology that is not limited anymore to games specifically or the entertainment field in general as the VR applications are expanding to many other fields and businesses .

AR vs. VR

You could say both AR and VR have similar concepts, but different results. That’s why the fields that have experienced their impact don’t have much in common.

AR has always found a home in more commercial and industrial fields. It first appeared in the work of Caudell and Mizell [1992] at Boeing, who sought to assist workers in an airplane factory by displaying wire bundle assembly through a HMD. AR is currently being used in:

  • In medical training
  • In retail, where shoppers can look up additional information on products while they’re browsing Repair and maintenance of complex equipment
  • For visualization of final products during creative process
  • In the entertainment industry

As for VR, it has found application in training for real-life environments by creating a simulation of reality where people can practice complex aspects in safer environments. For example:

  • For training purposes by army, navy, air force, marines and coast guard
  • In sports, so that the coaches and players can train more efficiently
  • In medical training, to create a consequence free learning environment
  • For interactive learning in schools
  • For product displays in fashion industry
  • In the entertainment industry

So who’s winning? There’s no right answer to this question. It is only a matter of choice, and your purpose.

Why Consider a Career in AR/VR?

Experiencing AR and VR is fun, but to be able to pursue a career in these fields is awesome. With the increasing demand for content in AR and VR, learning to develop Augmented Reality & Virtual reality experiences can take your career a long way.

India’s animation, VFX sector can grab up to 25% of global market share by ’25

India’s animation, VFX sector can grab up to 25% of global market share by ’25

The Indian animation and visual effects industry, which commands around 10% of the global market share, has the potential to reach 20-25% by 2025, according to the latest media and entertainment industry report by the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

The two segments, which have together grown 17% from $0.7 billion in 2015 to $1.3 billion in 2019, can create 75,000-120,000 jobs over the next five years with their contribution to the nation’s gross domestic product rising by 0.06-0.08% over the same period, the report said.

Over the years, Indian-origin companies have been lauded for their visual effects design in several Hollywood films. Double Negative (DNEG), a Prime Focus group company, has won the Oscar four times for titles such as Blade Runner 2049, Interstellar, Ex Machina, and Inception. Meanwhile, Thor: The Dark World, was outsourced to Mumbai’s Prana Studios Ltd and Bengaluru-based Mr. X contributed to 2018 Oscar winner The Shape of Water.

India must learn to leverage its strengths to build its own animation, visual effects, gaming, comics (AVGC) industry, including strong technology skills and competitively priced talent, said the BCG report.

“These are sectors that do not just have great export potential to demonstrate the soft power of India but can also emerge as examples of Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) if home-grown startups are given adequate push,” Amit Khare, secretary, ministry of information and broadcasting, had said at an event referring to AVGC and educational technologies that came to the fore following the coronavirus outbreak.

Information and broadcasting minister Prakash Javadekar had earlier said that animation, visual effects, gaming and comic are sunrise sectors and Indians are providing back-end support to top filmmakers of the world. “It is time that these professionals started doing more of this for our own films so that the use of animation and graphics in Indian films grows manifold.” Javadekar had said.

The push for animation is based on the success of Hollywood flicks such as The Jungle Book and The Lion King, whose 3D effects make for immersive big-screen viewing.

3D Visualization, Its Uses, and Scope

3D Visualization, Its Uses, and Scope

The need for providing better and more competitive visual content has been persistently increasing in recent times. There are hundreds of brands marketing the same product to thousands of people, and logically the best way to stay in the game is to keep the customers invested in the brand. For achieving this, they resolve to technological advancements in rich media content to attract the masses. It doesn’t even come to our notice that we are in fact exposed to such advancements routinely. Be it the large digital billboards of your favorite beverage or an e-learning software used in schools. Visualization is indeed a fundamental tool for representing ideas and solutions.
Before we enlighten you with all the fields 3D visualization has revolutionized, let’s understand what it is. 3D Visualization basically refers to the process of rendering 3D content (graphical, animation or diagrammatic) or a visual technique to pass information. 3D artists use tools such as AutoCAD, Adobe Illustrator, Autodesk 3ds Max, Autodesk Maya, and Cinema 4D to create stunning visualizations that can be used in any industry. To use these programs, you would require adequate training and knowledge.

Here are some of the most common areas where 3D visualization techniques come handy.

1. Marketing
3D visualization allows creating content for product promotions. Imagine being able to examine the texture, colour and shape of an uncreated object while sitting peacefully on the couch. No more issues of hiring photo-studios when all can be done with the help of 3D artists and a computer.

2. Architecture
Construction companies require intricate planning and accuracy as there is no room for trial and error. 3D visualization has increased operational efficiency and cost benefits. It has also removed technical barriers while communicating the design to non technical personnel.
Check out this 3D architectural visualization work done by a student of Arena Animation Sayajigunj.

3. Medicine
Medical 3D Visualization is a revolutionary concept. Medical 3D visualization offers visual representations of scanned body parts with the help of virtual models. This offers depth and details when compared to the conventional static two-dimensional medical images. The process facilitates better diagnoses, reduces the surgical operation learning curves, minimize operational costs, and shorten image acquisition times.

4. Education
One of the instances where 3D visualization can become more than art is in the education sector. Almost every primary school and universities have been equipped with e-learning privileges to avoid gaps in understanding concepts.

5. Multimedia
3D Visualization is now an integral part of the entertainment industry. It is not only being used in movies to bring characters and superheroes to life on screen, the widespread use of 3d visualsation has helped games become more realistic. Digital artists now create more enticing and engaging visualizations.

There are many more industries that benefits from these services— including automotive, pharmaceutical, and fashion. 3D visualization is a fine blend of both technical skills and artistry.
